The purpose of this seminar is to share with each other, in an informal setting, some of the flavor and excitement of our current research. Speakers will be Physics Department faculty, postdocs and advanced grad students (and, on occasion, visitors or alumni). These seminars should also give grad students a better idea of the ongoing research in the department, which will help in the choice of a research advisor.
Talks will be strictly limited to 30 minutes plus questions (so that we'll have time for informal conversation over pizza, soft drinks and beer) and will be pitched to the level of a first-year grad student. (That way, the rest of the Physics faculty will also have some chance of understanding!) Ideally, a significant part of each talk will be comprehensible also to advanced undergrad physics majors.
