Safari Books Online -- E-library for almost any computer related questions. This database should work on any operating system without special plugins. (Requires NYU proxy)

Open Office - Open Office should open documents produced by most of the word processing softwares.

or click on "Ask ITS" on the top right corner after logging on to home.nyu.edu.
ITS also has SSH and SFTP softwares.
